So, I’m back. Of course, you don’t know that, because it’s been fiver years and:

a) there were only a handful of people out in the blogosphere who ever knew I existed to begin with, and they’ve either realized I was never going to post a naked picture, or have been released from prison (congratulations Uncle Monty!) and no longer have free wi-fi,

b) this is still a figment of my not-yet-New-Year’s-resolution, and there’s a pretty good chance that I’ll forget the log-in, or even the fact that I ever wanted to log on again, period, and wander away into a giant cheese orgy, and

c) do people still read dietblogs, anyway? I mean really? Eat Less, Move More, Lose Weight. Lather, Rinse, Repeat. (You see, I STILL REMEMBER!)

I mean, theoretically, I still remember.

At the dawn of 2003, I discovered blogs. Or journals, as they mostly insisted you call them at the time. More specifically, someone forwarded me a link to Wendy McClure’s journal “Pound” (the “Y” is silent. Imaginary, really, much like the 50 pounds I lost whilst blogging.) I was first intrigued by the myriad methods 70’s housewives discovered for using gelatin, and then just the fact that anybody was writing anything personal on the web, having only used it for last-minute research papers and short forays into girl-on-girl porn, myself.

(Take that, Search Engine Optimization! Just like that, I’ve got an audience…)

Anway, Wendy. Poundy. Then Erin, Buddha, and Robyn, Bitchypoo, and Dietgirl, Amazing Adventures Of. And dozens and dozens of others, all smarter (and now skinnier), and much better writers than I am, but the trail was blazed, and I decided to wander willingly along. I started writing (and exercizing, amazingly enough), and sharing, and losing weight. And then continued writing, and eating correctly, and dropping more pounds.

In a period of about 8 months, I lost about 50 pounds. I kept it off for about a year. Then as the more I gained, the less I wrote, and the persona known as SkinnyKat was no more. (Not that I ever quite made it to skinny, but it seemed like quite a catchy title at the time.)

In the past four years, I’ve gained 180% of it back. I think. I’m making up that number because a) math hurts my pretty little head, and b) I haven’t owned a scale in months. Which is why this whole thing might still be a little bit premature. But, this is 2007, soon 2008, so I’m doing things the new-fashioned way.

1. Decide it would be nice to see feet again.

2. Eat a round of brie

3. No, REALLY decide it would be nice to see feet again. And maybe change out of XXXXL mumu.

4. Order domain name.

5. Pat rotund belly, remembering brie fondly.

5. Secure hosting.

6. Polish off the chocolates clients sent in for the holidays because it’s the day after Christmas and no one’s in the office to see me woof them down. At least no one in this hallway, because I totally checked first, but maybe I should carry the last few to my office and shut the door, just in case Rex decides to come check his mail.

7. Download wordpress and start putzing about with different designs. Wonder how much designers charge vanity bloggers with big bellies.

8. Suck it up, take the next step, and press publish.

Because joke as I may, if I don’t make some changes soon, standing up and taking a conference room chair with me will be the least of my worries.

Looks like I’m back, bitches. Let’s see if I can win the second round.

You go girl! Imagine a bit WOOOO-WOOOOOT coming from your comment section. The girl-empowerment kind of WOOOOO-WOOOOOOT, not the kind that comes from construction sites or from locomotives. Although if you do hear a loud WOOOOO-WOOOOOT from a steam engine, this might indicate a good time to get over your fear of running.

    Anyway.

It doesn’t count as talking to myself if done in the guise of testing comments, right?

    Hi Kat!

I never knew you 5 years ago, but I am looking forward to getting to know you now. Thank you for the linkage on your new blog, you write so well I can’t believe you have been gone for so long… but you are back now and I am pleased to meet you.

Love the name of your blog too… I might have to try that! LMAO and all the rest of it.

    Greetings from Holland,

    Amanda :)

Kat it is wonderful to see you back in the blogosphere. Thanks for dropping by The Obesicon to see whether or not I’d been hit by a bus. I’ve not been hit by a bus. I have been chasing ice cream trucks. Keep writing!!!

Something to say?
